Current research indicates that students must develop good handwriting and keyboarding skills if they are to write effectively. After an overview of writing research, participants in this workshop will move into hands-on practice with handwriting, including proper positioning and grip, hand and eye dominance, and letter formation. They will also conduct a quick overview of effective keyboard instruction. Then, participants will look at basic and expanded paragraph writing, with an eye to an "I do it, we do it, you do it" model of instruction. They will work with list generation, categorization, supporting idea development, and topic and concluding sentences. At all levels in this workshop, participants will leave with a wide variety of strategies they can use with their students the very next day.
